ServiceMaster by Stratos is a 7,500 SF interior office renovation of the first floor of the historic Lowenstien Building in Memphis, TN.

ServiceMaster by Stratos relocated from their location in the suburbs of Memphis to the ground floor space of the 1850’s era  historic Lowenstien Department store in the heart of the downtown core.  The design carefully juxtaposes the new offices below and around the historic cast iron columns in a voluminous space.  New walls and design elements were intentionally positioned to avoid these columns and offset from the rhythmic grid by 15 degrees to create a dynamic and playful open office environment.

The interior organizing element, a cluster of private offices and meeting rooms, divide the entire space while concealing mechanical equipment keeping the existing space as original as possible. All of the new construction walls were held at 10’ allowing the 19’ volume to let natural light cascade throughout the loft style space.

Layers of translucency were used to define the differences in public and private space while still allowing the impressive natural lighting to perform.  The spaces were organized in a hierarchy with the executive areas in the middle element with the various support functions grouped together on either side.  In addition, warehousing needs for the company’s products were integrated without disturbing the historic nature of the building while also protecting the view from the street.
